Bay
Electric CEO to serve as Immediate Past President of International Electrical
Contractors
Newport News, Va., October 2, 2005 –
John F. Biagas, president and CEO of Bay Electric Co., Inc. in
Newport News, Va., and the 2005 National President of the
Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC), will serve as the IEC's
Immediate Past President for 2006.
Biagas was named to the post by the organization's membership
at the 48th Annual Independent Electrical Contractors, Inc. (IEC)
National Convention and IEC Electric Expo 2005 in Baltimore, Md.
As outgoing president of the organization, Biagas
installed the officer slate during a special
inauguration ceremony at the convention.
Other officers elected were IEC National President,
Dennis Thomas; Senior National Vice
President, John Quebe of KenMor Electric, Houston, Tex.; National
Vice President, David Ekmark, Ekmark Electrical Company, Memphis,
Tenn.; National Vice President, Rob Heineman, Pueblo
Electric, Pueblo, N. M.; National Treasurer,
Greg Haren, Enertech Electrical,
Lowellville, Oh; and National Secretary, Steve
Wiege, PTSC, Gresham, OR.
Biagas has been active in the international
organization for a number of years, serving as IEC Senior National Vice President
before heading up the organization in 2005.
Prior to that, he was IEC National Vice President, National Treasurer and the
served on the was one of the founders of the Hampton Roads, Va., IEC Government
Affairs Committee for two years and on the IEC Executive Committee.
A Master Electrician licensed in four states and
the District of Columbia, Biagas is
credited with growing Bay Electric from a small electrical shop to one of the
fastest growing, minority-owned contractors in the Mid-Atlantic area.
For two years in a row, the
Virginia Chamber of Commerce recognized Bay’s double digit growth by naming the
company to Virginia’s list of Fantastic Fifty fastest growing, small
privately-held businesses. President George W. Bush cited
Biagas in a 2004 nationally televised White House speech, complimenting the Bay
CEO for
his entrepreneurship and for Bay’s growth from $1 million in revenues in 1997
when Biagas purchased the company to $14 million in 2003.
Active in the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of
Commerce, Biagas has a degree in business from McNeese State University in Lake
Charles La. He, his wife, and their two children live in Yorktown, Va.
