Tibs forms alliance with Bay Electric
Tibs aligns with minority-owned, HUB Zone, SBA Small
Disadvantage Contractor
ATLANTA, November 1, 2003 – Tibs Group™,
Inc., a Georgia based provider of electrical, utility, and technology
services and solutions, and Bay Electric Co., Inc., a Virginia
electrical service provider and general contractor, announced
today that the two companies had formed a partnering agreement
that would allow Bay Electric to expand its operations into Metro
Atlanta and the Southeast.
“By partnering with Bay Electric, we are helping a small
disadvantaged business create opportunities here in the Atlanta
area,” said Mark O. Tibbetts, CEO of Tibs Group. “Bay Electric, a
minority owned firm with over four decades of experience, has a
solid customer base and strong resources.”
“Bay Electric’s CEO John Biagas, is a longtime personal
friend,” said Tibbetts. “The relationship between
Bay Elect and Tibs strengthened over the past year as we worked
together on our first major project, a multi-million dollar electrical
construction project for the USDA in Athens, Ga.,” he added.
“Working with Bay Electric’s team on the USDA project
reaffirmed my belief that this is a company that shares the same
commitment to excellence and work ethics that we have,”
said Tibbetts. “Bay Electric and Tibs Group make a great
team!”
“To cement the alliance, Bay Electric opened Bay Electric
Atlanta in Suwanee, Ga., with a full time staff working out of
the new location,” said John F. Biagas. “Bay Electric
Atlanta gives us the flexibility to work with Tibs on a day-to-day
basis and capitalize on our companies’ synergies to better
serve our growing client bases,” Biagas added.
“Together, Bay Electric and Tibs offer a unique blend of
services and solutions that very few contractors can provide,”
said Biagas. “Government agencies, municipalities, and other
organizations that want to work with experienced minority-owned
companies can now turn to Bay Electric Atlanta and our partner
Tibs Group. Together we can handle everything from electrical
services, cabling and fiber optics, telecommunications, to security
and access controls, power quality solutions and even complete
general contracting,” he said.
Heading up the new Bay Electric Atlanta office is John Drake,
who has over twenty years experience in project management and
contract administration. A retired U.S. Coast Guard Contracting
Officer, he has been with Bay Electric for three years.
Tibs Group, founded over 30 years ago, is one of the premier
electrical and technology providers in the Southeast, working
with customers such as Georgia Power Company, BellSouth, Chick-fil-A,
Delta Airlines, State Farm, Coca-Cola, General Electric, Emory
University, Georgia Tech, the Centers for Disease Controls (CDC)
and Gwinnett County School System.
Providing electrical service and general contracting work in
the Chesapeake Bay area for over 40 years, Bay Electric is located
in Newport News, Va. The company is a HUB Zone, SBA Certified
8a minority owned business and is noted for its recent work in
the government sector, completing major projects and renovations
for the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard,
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, General Service Administration,
Veterans Administration, Richmond Federal Courthouse, and Department
of Energy.
Also, both Bay Electric and Tibs are active in the Independent
Electrical Contractors’ (IEC) Association. Biagas is Senior
Vice President of the national organization and Tibbetts is a
member of the Atlanta/Georgia IEC Board of Directors and was named
in 2002 as that organization’s Member of the Year.
