Lighting Retrofits

What is a Lighting Retrofit?
A lighting retrofit is an easy way to make an older building a little more green. During a lighting retrofit, fluorescent lamps and ballasts, the inner workings of a light bulb, are replaced with greener, more efficient models. With the installation of these new parts, energy consumption is reduced and savings in energy costs are increased. Some customers even experience an improved quality of light as a result of a lighting retrofit conducted in their office or warehouse.

Our Experience with Lighting Retrofits
As an electrical and general contractor in business for more than 45 years, Bay Electric Co., Inc. is experienced in performing lighting retrofits for industrial clients as well as government agencies. At a glance, here are three of our recent lighting retrofit projects.

Project 1 – Lighting Retrofit for a Local Newspaper
Bay Electric performed a lighting retrofit for a local newspaper. Due to the building’s age and because of poor electrical efficiency of the lighting ballasts, the lighting needed to be replaced. New electronic ballasts were installed, saving the company approximately $42,000 per year in electricity costs. The process of retrofitting the existing lighting with new electronic ballasts was minimally disruptive to employees.

Project 2 – Interior High Bay Lighting for a Distribution Center
Bay Electric provided new circuitry for fluorescent high bay lights in a distribution center. As the electrical contractor, Bay Electric installed nearly 250 high bay fluorescent fixtures. The result? More energy efficient lighting with great potential for monetary savings.

Project 3 – High Efficiency Lighting at an Army Base
Bay Electric was awarded several contracts with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to reduce the energy consumption and power demand on base by replacing existing inefficient fluorescent lighting system components with more efficient components and systems. With a cumulative value in excess of $3 million, the work consisted of the replacement of electromagnetic ballasts and lamps with new electronic ballasts and lamps within the existing ceiling-mounted lighting fixtures.
