Bay Electric is one of the fastest growing minority-owned contractors in the Southeast. Privately-held, Bay specializes in general contracting as well as in Design/Build and in electrical, security, and technology solutions and services.

Headquartered in Newport News, Va., Bay has offices in Atlanta, Ga., and Charleston, S.C., and ongoing projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic and the Southeast. 

Founded over 40 years ago in 1962, Bay functioned primarily as an electrical service company until 1997, when John Biagas purchased the company and expanded its operation to include general contracting and other service offerings. Since then, Bay has grown rapidly. In fact, since 2001, Bay has more than quadrupled in size and revenues. 

In 1999, Bay was certified as an 8(a)Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB) company and in June 2002 qualified as a Certified HUB (Historically Underdeveloped Business) Zone contractor.

Bay, which operates as a Merit Shop, does business with and provides construction services for major corporations, the military, and numerous other government agencies. In addition, Bay is bondable to $20 million per project and $100 million in the aggregate.

President George W. Bush recognized Bay's remarkable growth in a White House speech that saluted Bay's CEO and Bay for their contributions to the economy. The Virginia Chamber of Commerce has also cited Bay four years in a row, 2004, 2005, 2006 and again in 2007, for the company's rapid growth by naming Bay to the Chamber's Fantastic Fifty list of the state's fastest growing, small privately-held businesses.
