Electric School Bus Chargers—Chesapeake Transportation Center

Electric School Bus Chargers—Chesapeake Transportation Center

Location: Chesapeake, Virginia

Owner/Customer: Dominion Energy VA (customer)

Project Description:

Bay Electric Co., Inc., was awarded a contract for the installation of 2 school bus charging dispensers for the City of Chesapeake’s 2 all electric buses. The average school bus route across Virginia is approximately 80 miles per day. The current electric bus models have a range between 115-150 miles, so a single charge is more than enough to run a typical daily route with additional mileage to spare. Additional charge and be distributed back to the grid.

The electric batteries that power the buses are warrantied to last for the life of the bus itself, about 15 years. After that, they can be installed in buildings to provide on-site battery storage.
